Emilio is a Master’s student at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering. His work is centered around the Type II diabetes drug, metformin, its therapeutic potential in the context of multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury. Specifically, using various transgenic mouse models, Emilio is focused on looking at how different cell populations (neural stem cells, oligodendrocyte progenitor cells, and microglia) contribute to metformin’s neuroregenerative and neuroprotective effects.
